ZEEKR X

2026-10-03 14:50:01

Model Overview

The ZEEKR X is the third mass-production model from the ZEEKR brand, built upon Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) pure electric platform and positioned as an all-electric compact SUV. The vehicle made its official debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, emphasising modern luxury, a versatile cabin, and spirited performance tailored for young urban buyers. As of May 2026, the on-sale variant is the 2026 model year, which was introduced in November 2025 across 3 variants offering four- and five-seater configurations. The official retail price ranges from RM155,800 to RM175,800, with limited-time promotional pricing dropping to between RM145,800 and RM165,800. While continuing the SEA platform's technological DNA, the 2026 model avoids unnecessary spec-sheet padding, instead adopting a more pragmatic design and equipment strategy focused on its core positioning as "the fastest-accelerating SUV under RM200,000".

Design Language

The ZEEKR X adopts a minimalist modern luxury design language, resulting in a compact, nimble, yet distinctly premium silhouette. Up front, it features the brand's signature closed-off grille flanked by intelligent matrix LED projector headlamps seamlessly integrated into the fascia, alongside highly recognisable "Dawn Light" Y-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) and a three-section gloss black lower bumper that accentuates its sporty stance. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,450 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width, and 1,572 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase—making it one of the longer-wheelbase offerings in its electric SUV segment. The side profile features a floating roof design paired with sharp, sculpted character lines, complemented by frameless doors, flush pop-out door handles, and frameless power-adjustable side mirrors to elevate overall aesthetic refinement. At the rear, it sports a full-width LED light bar and a gloss black lower bumper treatment, with a clean, concealed underbody design. Exterior paint options comprise six standard shades: Paris Rice, Sumi Grey, Oslo Black, California Pink, and Hangzhou Green, alongside a new matte-finish "Seattle Green" for 2026 to suit tastes ranging from urban commutes to bold self-expression. Inside, the cabin carries over the minimalist luxury ethos with four colour schemes—Black/White, Black/Orange, Pure Black, and Purple/Rose—delivering a youthful yet upscale ambience.

Powertrain and Performance

Across the range, the ZEEKR X is powered by a high-performance permanent magnet synchronous electric motor system utilising third-generation 8-hairpin winding technology, available in single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setups. The single-motor RWD model puts out 250 kW (approx. 340 PS) and 373 Nm of torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds; the dual-motor AWD variant delivers a combined output of 365 kW (approx. 496 PS) and 573 Nm, dispatching 0–100 km/h in a blistering 3.69 seconds, earning the official moniker of "the fastest-accelerating SUV under RM200,000". Top speed is rated at 190 km/h. On the range front, the single-motor model packs a 61.47 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) "Golden Shield Battery" offering a CLTC-rated range of 530 km, while the dual-motor model is fitted with a 66 kWh ternary lithium pack rated at 512 km (CLTC). For charging, the entire line-up supports a 400V high-voltage fast-charging architecture; the single-motor version supports up to 4.5C charging rates, juicing from 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in around 15 minutes, whereas the dual-motor version takes roughly 30 minutes from 30% to 80%. The range-topping Ultra 5-seater variant comes standard with Akebono four-piston fixed front callipers and large ventilated/drilled brake discs for enhanced stopping power.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the ZEEKR X rides on an uprated front MacPherson strut and rear integrated five-link independent suspension setup, fitted with road-feel-optimised hydraulic bushings across the range. Shared with the SEA platform and closely related to the smart #1's underpinnings, the ZEEKR X steps up its component specification by employing hydraulic bushings over standard rubber ones on the lower control arms, more effectively absorbing road imperfections and elevating in-cabin NVH refinement. The front lower control arms use double-stamped high-strength steel, while the front steering knuckles and rear hub carriers are forged from aluminium alloy to balance rigidity and unsprung weight reduction. The suspension calibration strikes a sweet spot between ride compliance and agility: minor road undulations are effortlessly soaked up, body roll is well contained during hard cornering, and maximum lateral grip hits 0.94 g. Drive modes comprise Sport, Eco, Standard/Comfort, Off-road, and Custom/Individual. The Ultra variant further gains the XTCS all-terrain intelligent traction control system, capable of responding to wheel slip within 6 milliseconds to stabilise the vehicle on slippery surfaces. From the 2024 model year onwards, an Urban Off-road mode was introduced to optimise torque distribution over varying terrain. The steering also offers three weight settings, with Sport mode delivering direct turn-in and enhanced road feedback for spirited driving.

Cabin and Features

The cabin is headlined by a triple-screen digital cockpit comprising an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 24.3-inch Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD). Notably, the 14.6-inch central screen is mounted on a 353 mm motorised sliding rail, allowing it to glide seamlessly between the driver and front passenger via gesture control: acting as the primary vehicle control hub in the centre, or sliding across to become a dedicated multimedia display for the front passenger—a rare feature in production vehicles. The system is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset running the latest ZEEKR OS, supporting the AI Mate voice assistant, 5G connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates, HUAWEI HiCar integration, and an in-car app market. In terms of creature comforts, standard equipment includes a 13-speaker Yamaha premium audio system, a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, an electronic PIN-protected glove box, a 6.6-litre centre storage compartment, and dual front cup holders. The four-seater variant features "4D Cloud Zero-Gravity Seats" with multi-way power adjustment and pneumatic lumbar support to simulate a relaxed zero-gravity posture, while the rear seat cushions can be electrically flipped up, expanding maximum cargo volume to 1,502 litres for versatile utility. A 5.7-litre centre console refrigerator capable of cooling from -6°C to 20°C and heating from 35°C to 50°C further underscores the cabin's boutique luxury appeal.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the passive safety front, the ZEEKR X comes standard with six airbags, comprising dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. Higher-spec variants add a front passenger FOX wrap-around frontal airbag and extended side curtain airbags designed to maintain cabin pressure for up to six seconds. The body shell adheres to the same stringent safety benchmarks as the flagship ZEEKR 009, incorporating an "eight-compartment" battery impact-absorption structure capable of withstanding up to 65 tonnes of side pole impact, tested at frequencies 11 times higher than industry standards. For active safety, the EV is equipped with the ZEEKR AD advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), powered by a sensor suite consisting of 5 HD cameras, 5 millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to enable Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. Core features include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Monitoring / Lane Change Assist, Forward and Rear Collision Warning (FCW/RCW), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), and Sentry Mode. Upper-trim Ultra and Max variants feature a Mobileye EyeQ4 driving assist processor delivering 2.5 TOPS of computing performance. The Auto Lane Change (ALC) system executes automated, smooth lane changes once surrounding clearance is verified, while the active obstacle avoidance function subtly offsets the car's lane position when overtaking heavy commercial vehicles to maximise lateral safety margins.

Market Performance and Evaluation

Upon its debut, the ZEEKR X generated considerable buzz thanks to its unique niche positioning and punchy performance; however, sustained market sales have fallen short of expectations. Across 2025, monthly deliveries broke the four-figure mark only in February (1,186 units), lingering in the triple digits throughout the remaining months and bottoming out at 430 units in April. By February 2026, monthly registrations slipped to just 285 units, placing it 70th in the compact SUV sales rankings. This sluggish performance can be attributed to three main factors: firstly, cut-throat competition in the RM150,000 to RM200,000 new energy vehicle (NEV) segment, where rival models offer superior interior packaging, longer driving range, more advanced ADAS suites, and faster charging, leaving the "boutique compact crossover" struggling against the mainstream demand for practical family workhorses; secondly, the 2026 ZEEKR X remains on a 400V electrical architecture—although it supports 4.5C charging, the broader market is rapidly adopting 800V architectures and 5C ultra-fast charging, while its Qualcomm 8155 cockpit processor is increasingly outclassed by newer rivals running the next-generation Snapdragon 8295 chip; thirdly, having recorded 224,000 total sales in 2025 and narrowly missing its annual target, ZEEKR has redirected its strategic focus and resources toward high-margin flagships and volume sellers, leaving the entry-level ZEEKR X with fewer R&D updates and marketing pushes. In addition, early customer feedback regarding build quality niggles, such as steering column rattles and infotainment screen glitches, also dampened consumer confidence. Nonetheless, the ZEEKR X continues to stand out in its segment as an agile "electric pocket rocket", distinguished by its signature sliding display, premium cabin appointments, and punchy dynamics. It represents a vital strategic effort by ZEEKR to broaden its product line-up and explore differentiated market niches, while serving as a valuable benchmark for future product iterations in the premium compact EV space.
